Rett's disorder

A pervasive developmental disorder that typically appears around age 6 months. Typically, development is normal through the first five months of life. Then, the child may lose purposeful use of the hands and develop distinctive hand movements, slowed brain and head growth, gait abnormalities, seizures and mental retardation. The disorder has only been reported in females.
