A common treatment for newborn jaundice (yellowing of the skin or whites of the eyes). Using ultravilolet lights (called bili lights), phototherapy alters a baby's bilirubin (a yellow pigment formed when red blood cells die), making it easier for the body to break down and eliminate the yellow pigment.
