peritonitis

Inflammation of the peritoneum (the thin, watery membrane lining the walls of the abdominal cavity and covering the intestinal tract). Peritonitis may be caused by rupture or perforation of any organ in the abdomen, pelvic inflammatory disease or injury to the abdominal wall.
