pheochromocytoma

A tumor of the sympathoadrenal system -- the part of the nervous system that involves the adrenal glands. A tumor in this area can affect the production of compounds known as catecholamines -- epinephrine and norepinephrine. This can result in severe hypertension (high blood pressure), increased body metabolism and hyperglycemia (high blood sugar).
