ventricle

One of the two lower chambers of the heart. The ventricles receive blood from the atrium (one of the two upper chambers of the heart) and pump it into the arteries. The right ventricle pumps blood into the pulmonary artery (the artery carrying blood from the right ventricle of the heart to the lungs) and the left ventricle pumps blood into the aorta (the blood vessel that carries blood from the heart to the rest of the body, except the lungs).
