sensorineural loss

A type of hearing loss most often due to acoustic trauma (prolonged exposure to excessively loud noise) or disorders of the inner ear or the eighth cranial nerve. This type of hearing loss cannot be corrected, but it can be prevented. People who have sensorineural loss may be helped with a hearing aid.
