An uncontrolled burst of electrical activity in the brain that causes symptoms such as muscle twitching, staring, tongue biting, loss of bladder control, unconsciousness and shaking. Symptoms vary depending on where in the brain the abnormal electrical activity occurs. Seizures can be caused by a variety of conditions, including fever, lead poisoning, head injury and genetic disorders.
