Cancer warning signs

To help detect cancer at an early stage, it's important to be aware of the early warning signs. The American Cancer Society recommends consulting your doctor if you experience:

change in bowel or bladder function

sores that don't heal

unusual bleeding or discharge

thickening or lump in the breast or elsewhere

indigestion or difficulty swallowing

recent change in a wart or mole

nagging cough or hoarseness
Unexplained weight loss or a change in weight is also a possible symptom of cancer. Of course, any of these symptoms may be caused by a variety of conditions less serious than cancer. It's important to consult your doctor promptly for an accurate diagnosis, however. Don't wait until you're in pain. Remember, early detection is often the key to successful treatment.
